Bruckner never completed the big finale he anticipated for this symphony. Attempts have been made since but it's arguable they add anything as the three-movement work is eerily satisfying as it stands. The 'concluding' adagio is like dawn breaking over the orchestra and it's hard to imagine how Bruckner could have topped this. The LSO has never sounded better under Haitink's direction and gives a five star performance.Read more...
